"Field tiles" are flat tiles decorated in
only one color. These tiles are particularly interesting
when handmade, since the slight variations in size, shape, and
texture can create unique patterns when used in large numbers.
Field tiles are also very useful in framing more complex patterned
or relief tiles, or to frame entire mosaics.
Field tiles are also less costly than
tiles with designs or relief tiles, and their use can help make a
project fall within budget.
Field tile sizes are typically 1", 2",
3", 4", 6", and 8" squares, as well as rectangles of any
combinations of 1", 2", 3", 4", 6", and 8" on any side.
Triangles are available in those same base and height sizes.
And, of course, custom sizes are no
problem and are proportionately priced. Looking for 2" by 8"
tiles? Trying to achieve a contemporary look using today's
non-standard and non-square tiles? We can do that. Just
remember that handmade tiles cannot be made as flat as commercial
tiles, and any measurement over 9" is particularly at risk for
unevenness.
