Small 1" or 2" hexagons
were used as floor tile in homes for many years, especially before
World War II. They were almost always white, sometimes with
black accent tiles used to form patterns.
Now, this versatile tile format has been
updated with a variety of glaze finishes. The tiles can be
ordered as loose tiles or as sheets of tiles (about one square foot
each) with face-mounted film for ease of installation.
Since these tiles are typically used for
floors in wet areas, the glaze selection is primarily
non-glossy to reduce slipping potential. The tiles are
porcelain and are suitable for interior, exterior, and wet
areas.
The tiles typically have a variegated
color, which is the nature of the glazes chosen for the most
part. Even with with solid colors like C75, however, the
smooth porcelain tile creates a slight puddling of the liquid glaze
as it is applied. The color variations add visual interest,
and can hide a bit of dirt for those of us who need this extra
benefit.
The boldest of you may want to mix
several colors together or create a design with these tiles.
